Since starting the pandemic time major people around the world start to use digital tools to work, study, buy things. Was the pandemic digital transformation coming in.

Was good to see how technology tools could help on dramatic times all are leaving, but at the same time, the cyber-attacks exponentially grow, as many people who are not digital included before, had started their first steps on the world wide web.

As a result, cyberattacks comes more and more sophisticated.

Just in the first 6 months of 2021, we had more data breaches even all 2020. The audacious cyber-attack by hackers that had penetrated the pipeline operator on the U.S. East Coast, caused a shutdown several days, led to a spike in gas prices, panic buying, and localized fuel shortages in the southeast.

In Brazil, criminals hack BTS units and got down connectivity signals for large areas, the telco operators ask for help, as that kind of criminal is becoming usual.

The dark side of the web is becoming strong and with artificial intelligence, support becomes more and more dangerous.

What could we do about it?

The new users must know where they are swimming on the web. Take care about passwords, don’t trust in all sites and links, understand what are saying the data privacy rules.

When we have many rules to protect the users, but they don´t know exactly what we are trying to protect them, they don´t believe it. As a result, they don´t care about it.

Data governance, data privacy, and data security tools and rules always are seeing as just bureaucratic things in the major of companies.

In the USA they are given for ransomware attacks the same priority as terrorism, in Brazil, they had turned more rigorous punishment for cybercrimes, which are good initiatives but are not enough.

The people education is a more long-term initiative, but that could be the more effective initiative on that war of dark side and light side of the web.

More digital inclusion training courses could help, and more communication what the dangerous consequences of data breaches could turn that clearer for everyone.

When we start to use digital payments, cryptocurrencies, home-schooling, home-office, distance medicine, we need to prepare people for leave in a digital world.

The main big techs (Microsoft, IBM, AWS, Google) are delivering online free courses about digital channels, data security on their technology base, but I believe that need to be more disseminate by governments and educational institutions, to achieve more and more people.
